A doula is a great resource during pregnancy, birthing, and even postpartum. They offer both you and your partner support, serve as a resource and cheerleader, and can work in any birthing environment. Doulas can also support you through experiences such as trying to conceive or having a stillbirth or miscarriage.

Thank you to Lovelace Health System for sponsoring this guide.

Expecting a baby is an exciting and life-changing journey. Lovelace would like to make your experience as memorable and stress-free as possible by helping you navigate your health care. No matter your insurance or birthing plan, our Labor of Love program offers you access to free pregnancy perks and assistance finding a doctor or insurance.

Lovelace Birthing Centers help bring more than 3,000 babies into the world each year with the help of our dedicated obstetricians, certified nurse midwives, obstetrical anesthesiologists, neonatologists, perinatologists, and nurses. Your birthing team will become familiar with your health history and guide you in forming a pregnancy plan that is ideal for you and your family.

When it comes time to deliver at one of our Lovelace Birthing Centers, you can expect exceptional, comfortable, and convenient care. Throughout labor and delivery, our new parents stay in one of our comfortable, private, birthing suites. We are excited to be part of your prenatal care and delivery so that your experience is as safe, healthy, and pleasant as possible.

What is a doula?

Doulas view their role as nurturing and protecting a woman’s memory of the birth experience. They are trained to provide continuous, one-on-one care, as well as evidence-based information, physical support, and emotional support to birthing persons and their partners. There are also postpartum doulas who are trained to help during the immediate months after birth, known as the fourth trimester.

We have compiled a list below of doulas in the Albuquerque area that can serve as your birthing bestie.

ABQ Mom Team Recommendations

“I loved that I was able to meet my doula at New Life Services before committing to anything to make sure we had chemistry. I was also assigned a backup doula whom I met a few times before giving birth in case my primary doula wasn’t able to make it. They also had an in-house lactation consultant I was able to work with postpartum. She came to my house which made a huge difference!” -Rosa P.

“ABQ Doulas & Birth Services is an amazing group of women. I have worked with some of their doulas in labor and delivery and have had nothing but positive interactions and I have heard nothing but good things. They even offer postpartum services which is incredible!” -Anastasia F.
