When a first baby makes his or her appearance, we do all the things we can as moms. We buy the best of the best, sanitize all the surfaces, buy the most expensive car seat, and every sniffle leads us to the pediatrician. What happens when you no longer have one baby, and suddenly you are a mom to multiple children?
When I became pregnant with my daughter, my son was already three. Becoming a mom to two kids sounded daunting. I wondered, how hard could it be? I have the experience. I’ve done this three years; I have it handled. I’m basically a professional mom right now. *Insert a laugh track right here.*
As a mom to two kids aged five and under, there are a few tips I have:
No Super Mom Allowed
You don’t need to clean everything, do laundry, or organize Marie Kondo style. Allow people to come help you, hire someone to help with cleaning, or just put off a few things while you settle in. Put down the sponge, and go take a nap.
This Too Shall Pass
Repeat to yourself, “It’s just a season.” Remember the sleepless nights, endless diaper parade, and hard moments will pass.
Include Siblings
Include your toddler in everything you can. Yes, it will be harder. And showing them how to “help” change a diaper will take longer. That is okay. Your toddler will love to feel important and helpful.
Reach Out
Make it a point to talk to another adult each day. Call close mom friends, family, or have someone stop by. It helps remind you that you aren’t alone.
