Albuquerque Moms Blog: Introducing Cari Davis

Albuquerque

An eighth-generation New Mexican, I grew up in Albuquerque’s North Valley and moved to Las Cruces to go to New Mexico State after graduating high school. Ten years later, I returned with my husband and stepdaughter. To me, the best thing about living in Albuquerque is the climate. Where else can you have so many beautifully sunny days out of the year to run, bike, ski, hike, or sit on the patio (sometimes all in the same day)? I’m a solar-powered girl who gets a little nutso when it’s overcast for more than about 24 hours. Albuquerque is a great place to live because our family is able to be active outdoors year-round. I love the uniqueness of our sunsets, desert beauty, cuisine, and centuries-old traditions that I get to share with my family. The worst thing about Albuquerque? All these Lobo fans!

Moms

My family make-up is probably a little different than most. My wonderful husband and I were married in 2008. I have an adult stepdaughter who lives out of state, and we adopted our two youngest at birth in 2012 and 2015. The birth of these two angels and the journey we went on to get them has been incredibly miraculous. It has fundamentally changed me and my faith. I am passionate about advocating for adoption and educating about it. I am always happy to answer questions about the process and our own experiences. Our favorite pastime is spending long weekends at our cabin in the Jemez where we can fish, swim, hunt, hike, and disconnect as a family. Second to our faith, getting my kids exploring outside and cultivating a love and appreciation for the outdoors is a top priority for raising my babies.

When I first became a mom, I did not really see a lot of mothers like me. First, I was a stepmom, which I had zero idea how to do. Then I was navigating my way through the adoption process, which was also completely foreign. I am honored to be a contributor  in hopes that maybe one mom can find someone they can relate to. I’m a book nerd who teaches high school English so I’m interested in all things literary. My grandmother was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism in 1972 so I’m hoping to channel some of her talents. (But please don’t have high expectations.)
