Food and Fun in the Sun: Healthy Summer Snacks for Kids

Summer is here, and let’s face it, mamas! Our children are about to eat us out of house and home. Instead of reaching for a bag of chips or a box of cereal, I like to be prepared for the hunger wave we experience during school breaks. Planning for snack time during the week can be stressful. But I have some great tips and snack ideas to keep the kids full, happy, and healthy this summer!

Toothpicks Are Your Best Friend for Healthy Snacks

One of my favorite tricks for summertime healthy snacks is “Toothpick Kabobs.” We like to stack our toothpicks full of berries, cheese, and veggies during the summer. They are easy to store and convenient for a quick snack at home or on the go. It takes less than ten minutes to make! We like to dip our fruit kabobs in greek yogurt and the veggies in hummus. Another plus to these tasty little treats is that when your kids are out and about, the food doesn’t even have to be touched! The toothpicks are little life savers helping us avoid the germs normally consumed when holding a handful of food versus using a toothpick.

Frozen Goodie Bags

Another favorite of ours during the summer is frozen fruit. Filling up Ziplock baggies with grapes, berries, and melon pieces is a great snack that is easy to store and takes hardly any time to make. These baggies are great when the kids are playing outside on a hot summer day. Already having them packed helps throughout the week. They can easily be thrown into lunch boxes, picnic baskets, and beach bags when you are in a hurry.

Try these healthy snack ideas out! The kids will love it and you won’t regret it.
