Play areas and rooms can be one of the most difficult design challenges for homes with younger kids. When you’re ready to start styling your playroom, keep in mind the two most important things to anchor and keep up with your playroom, pretty storage options and a good soft rug. Once you’ve got your two main items, the rest is easy! Here are a few tips on how you can make your play area match the rest of your home aesthetic, plus a few of our favorite playroom pieces.

Neutrals

Kids grow out of colors just like we outgrow styles. Try and stick to soft neutral palettes that will let the room organically grow with your kids. That doesn’t mean you have to avoid fun colors or patterns. Just keep them minimal with accent pieces. Temporary wall paper is our go to for a fun accent wall. With this, you can change it as kids grow without having to redesign the entire room.

Hide Stuff

Try to have as much closed storage as you can. Kids’ stuff is a million different colors. It’s big. It’s bulky. It doesn’t typically fit in drawers or cabinets. Try to maximize whatever kind of closed storage you have, baskets and bins work great for cubbies and shelves. Pick out any toys that match the decor around the room and style some shelves with easy to reach pieces. This will save you more open space on the floor and you won’t have toy clutter everywhere. Also, it’s a great idea to declutter toys while you are in the process of designing the play area.Playroom by Albuquerque Moms Blog

Walls

Another trick is to utilize your wall space in terms of hooks. Kids are great at hooking things. Show them what each hook is for and it will help them feel independent. You can hook bags and baskets filled with toys and they’ll know that things belong in a certain place. This way they can help you maintain a tidy playroom.

Seating

A comfy sofa or lounge chair is a perfect place to sit and read a book together. Or just a good place to sit and catch your breath while your kids are playing. Kids are more likely to use their playroom if it’s a place you hang out in as well.
