3 Things I Trust When It Comes to Skincare

I started my anti-aging skincare routine three years ago. It was when those worry line creases became more visible and they wouldn’t go away. It wasn’t all at once. I was picking up a product here and there because, let’s face it, anti-aging products can be expensive! I wear a daily facial lotion with SPF and I haven’t stopped since.

New Stage In Life

There was once a time that I used to be a fan of foundation. I always thought it made me look better. My skin was brighter, smoother, and fresh. It wasn’t until I stopped wearing foundation for a long period that I realized I look better and younger without it.

My makeup routine isn’t what it used to be with foundation, concealer, eyeliner, contouring, etc. I still wear mascara, blush and lip tint, and sometimes eye shadow, just without the foundation. I do, however, make exceptions for special occasions or days I know I’ll be interacting with new clients.

I used to think I looked better if I wore all the makeup products. At this stage of life, I’ve been trying to get to know myself again. My new likes and dislikes. Really trying to love myself.

3 Things I Trust When It Comes to SkincareHere are three simple things that haven’t let me down yet when it comes to my beauty/skincare routine.

1. Water

Drinking plenty of water. It doesn’t just help in aiding digestion, it helps you become hydrated as well as your skin, hair, and nails. Bonus: it helps with elasticity and can give a nice hydrated glow.

2. Sunscreen

I’ve been hearing it for years: “Add sunscreen to your routine.” It helps the appearance of your skin and protects you from skin cancer.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar and Witch Hazel

Recently, I broke out in zits on my forehead. Of course, I knew it was because I was eating and indulging in all the bad foods I knew I shouldn’t–sodas, chocolate, chips, gluten, etc. Add a bit of stress and hormones, and you got zits. Well at least in my case, I got zits. My quick fix to get my skin nice, smooth, and clear is to gently wash my face with a soft non-perfumed, non-toxic cleanser, and then dab/wipe my face with cotton balls filled with apple cider vinegar and witch hazel. They do the trick every single time, and I will swear by them forever.

While in the process of being true to myself and caring more about how I treat my skin, I am growing in confidence and love of the aging process. Will I continue to use more than my trusty three above? Sure! I’m not opposed to it, and there are products that I’ve had success with. But sometimes keeping it simple is the best way to go.
