What is acupuncture?

For those who are new to it, acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.

In addition to helping with those aches and pains during pregnancy, seeing an acupuncturist is also great postpartum. It can help with insufficient lactation, mastitis, fatigue, pelvic pain, and C-section recovery. It can also help with hormonal imbalances, and even postpartum depression and anxiety, among so many other things.

The process itself is also incredibly relaxing. I understand that being a human pin cushion may not sound appealing, but the practice has been around for over 3,000 years, so it has to be doing something for people! If nothing else, you get to lie in a dark room with soothing music and zero distractions, which is a welcome change of pace. Sign me up, please!

We have rounded up a list of acupuncturists in Albuquerque to help you on your motherhood journey.

ABQ Mom Team Recommendations

“Natural Life Acupuncture is fantastic! They provide service on site at the the fertility clinic beofre insemination/embryro  transfer. Dr. Jill was so kind and positive throughout the entire session. It was an additional support system as we went through our first round of IVF and it helped us know we were trying everything possible to ensure its success. Nearly 4 years later, that little embryo is a succesful thriving little girl and we know services like this helped bring her into this world!” –Martha L.
