Things to Do in ABQ :: A Mom’s Guide to September

Guide to SeptemberSeptember is here, which means fall is not too far behind. As the leaves begin to change, the city is beginning to open up more and more. With the groove of school hopefully underway, we have a whole new month of activities for you and the family!

Below are some ABQ happenings for the month of September.

:: Now Open in Albuquerque ::

ABQ Biopark

After a long summer without the Zoo and Botanic Gardens, they are back open! Implementing social distancing measures, mask wearing, and staggered arrivals, the ABQ Biopark has really made it a great experience for the whole family. Get your tickets here.

Old Man Gloom will still burn this year, and you and your family can go watch from the safety of your cars. Balloon Fiesta Park will be broadcasting the burning of Zozobra by projecting it on to a 6-story screen. Submit your nature of gloom slips of paper virtually so they can burn with him. And if you don’t make it down to the park, you can watch on KOAT at 8pm from the comfort of your couch. If you’ve had a rough 2020 (and who hasn’t), you can even pay $1 to burn your gloom. (Please note, there will be zero attendance at the actual burning in Santa Fe.)

:: Fun Holidays in September ::

September 1 :: Random Acts of Kindness day

I mean, we can all agree the world needs some kindness. So whether you buy the person behind you Starbucks, have the kids bring flowers to the neighbor, or roll in a stranger’s trash cans, let’s give kindness away.

September 4 :: Lazy Mom’s Day

Ok, so I will be a lazy mom any day I want. BUT this is a nice excuse to put your feet up, do nothing, and veg out. Check out all the ways to have a perfect lazy day.

September 10 :: National TV Dinner Day

Grab a microwave dinner (one from your childhood maybe) and put on a Netflix series for the whole family. Cozy up and relax.

September 12 :: Video Games Day

Video games can consume our kids (and sometimes our hubbies–maybe even ourselves), so today if you can’t beat them, join them! And maybe you’ll even beat them. Check out what one contributor learned from playing with her son.

September 13 :: Grandparents Day

Grandparents are the real MVP’s. They are always there when you need them and will spoil and love your kiddos like crazy. Let’s celebrate them today and every day.

September 16 :: National Step Family Day

Step families are unique, special, and not always easy. But they are definitely always worth celebrating. Read all about one mom’s experience at step mommin’.

September 20 :: National Wife Appreciation Day

*Cough* *Cough* just slip your spouse a note about this one.

September 26 :: National Pancake Day

Every Sunday in our house is pancake day, but this week we can make an exception and celebrate on a Saturday! Try something crazy with one of these recipes.

September 28 :: National Family Day
