Dragon Lights Albuquerque :: A Chinese Lantern Festival That’s Fun for Families

0

Are you a parent like myself, always looking for something to do with the kids or family? Do you want something that is easy going yet amazing at the same time? Well, look no further! I recently had an amazing opportunity to check out Dragon Lights Albuquerque, which in past years was known as the New Mexico Chinese Lantern Festival.

This festival will have everyone amazed.

As soon as we walked in, my children were excited to see the vibrant colors. The stunning part of the lantern festival is that each lantern was handcrafted by 25 artists from China. Each lantern had to be welded together, the fabric had to be cut and glued, and lastly, the lighting had to be installed. In addition to these beautiful lanterns, Dragon Lights Albuquerque has even more to offer!

As my family and I walked through the festival, we were able to browse handcrafted art and witness demonstrations. There was inner bottle painting, aluminum weaving, and an artist who did amazing watercolor portraits. My daughter loved the inner bottle painting! The artist demonstrated how he was able to paint the inside of the tiny jar. Let’s just say she wants me to buy some jars so she can try. The festival also offers a lot of handcrafted gifts; the perfect opportunity to get started on Christmas shopping.

My toddler’s favorite part of the evening was the spectacular performances.

Being able to see a performer face change several different times is pretty cool to my toddler. The performance had a lot of variety from jar juggling to the Chinese yo-yo. There was definitely a performance for everyone to enjoy. My daughter enjoyed the contortionist and wanted to try, but I told her that takes a lot of training. After the performance, we got to meet with the performers and take pictures. My daughter was eager to meet the contortionist.

Dragon Lights Albuquerque has something for everyone and it was nice to get out and try something new.

And don’t worry if you get hungry there is onsite food. It’s a great way to try some authentic Chinese cuisine while you enjoy the lanterns.

My family and I definitely recommend you go out and see Dragon Lights Albuquerque. Also if you walk around you may just notice a theme to the lanterns and you might just spot a well-known Disney character.

They are open Tuesday through Sunday from 6:00 pm-10:00pm. Closed on Mondays. They are located at Expo New Mexico, 300 San Pedro Drive NE. Albuquerque, NM 87108. For more information, visit their website, Facebook, and Instagram.
