Time to be honest. Raise your hand if you nineties girls had a Van Gogh print on your bedroom wall? Guilty as charged. In fact, “Sunflowers” and “Starry Night” sure did grace the plaster of my dorm room.

Beyond Van Gogh :: Coming Soon to Albuquerque

Even though it was almost 20 years ago, I’ll never forget the privilege of visiting the Musée d’Orsay in Paris which houses a number of Van Gogh paintings. There, awash in the light from the windows in the arched ceiling, I was mesmerized by the dizziness and haunting eyes of Van Gogh’s “Portrait of the Artist.” It’s a strange feeling being in the presence of genius.

But there’s looking at art and then there’s walking into art.

Lucky for us, Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is coming to Albuquerque from March 2 – May 1, 2022.

Beyond Van Gogh :: Coming Soon to Albuquerque

Through the use of cutting-edge projection technology and an original score, Beyond Van Gogh breathes new life into over 300 of Van Gogh’s artworks.

Imagine not simply looking at one of Van Gogh’s 2-dimensional paintings but literally submerging yourself into one of them. His work is particularly known for the way it looks like it’s moving, so it only makes sense that his art would literally move by way of projection as well.

I’m particularly drawn to this artist’s use of bold colors and dreamy but ordinary subject matter. For these next few months, we can enter into his art and become one with it. And I think that’s exactly what he would have wanted.

Despite not experiencing financial success as a painter during his lifetime, Van Gogh had a deep desire to bring comfort to humanity through art. He wrote, “I want to give the wretched a brotherly message . . . When I sign [my paintings] ‘Vincent,’ it is as one of them.”

Are you ready to experience the wonder and warmth of his art? Below is more information on this exhibit.
